stalled

Stalled construction sites represent contested urban space caught between conflicting agendas. With debates around redevelopment of existing urban fabric often leading to a stalemate, parcels of valuable (and infrastructurally connected) land sit vacant in a state of limbo. Tapping into the spatial potential of these urban voids, Stalled suggests deploying an adaptable architectural prototype for small-scale, temporary interventions based on opportunist occupancy. The system presents a modular kit-of-parts, adaptable to different site constraints and programmatic needs. Operating alongside a symbiotic, custodial membership model, members receive safe and affordable access to the site’s underused infrastructure. In return, all-hours activity provides a deterrent to vandalism and offer an additional revenue stream for stalled sites, ultimately transforming a loophole within the rapid cycles of real estate development into an opportunity.

HISTORIC SCENE COLLAGES

“If these walls could talk…” goes the idiom, and this series seeks to assist in telling these forgotten tales. Using a carefully curated collage of figures atop a sketched background, these images present a compressed history of the architecture and surrounding urban areas at large. Taking the time to study the architectural detail for the sketched portion and research the building’s past to craft the entourage, the final product reveals more than what just a simple photograph could.
